Biography

Busher Kanj Abu Saleh بُشَر كنج أبو صالح is a composer and sound artist from Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan Heights. His work focuses on electroacoustic music, blending elements of orchestral, electronic, and environmental soundscapes. With a deep interest in the relationship between composers and their sonic environment, Busher explores how natural, urban, and cultural sounds shape the creative process and influence musical expression.

Busher holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition and was honored to make the Dean’s List for his research on music composition and the sonic environment, evaluated by Jonathan Berger at Stanford University. His thesis explores the connection between the sonic environment and composers, exploring how individuals and communities can shape and be shaped by their own soundscapes to reflect unique identities and experiences. This academic work serves as the foundation for his ongoing creative and artistic projects.

In 2020, he won the Composition Contest at the University of Haifa, with his work performed by the Haifa Orchestra. His recent collaboration with renowned artist Lawrence Abu Hamdan on the project Zifzafa has further highlighted his distinctive approach to sound. Contributing field recordings and composing the music. Lawrence and Busher have performed Zifzafa live in Palestine, Dubai and Paris at the Festival d’Automne. The project is set to continue its international journey, with performances scheduled in Switzerland, Tunisia, France, and other countries in 2025.

Beyond his solo compositional work, Busher has composed original scores for film, theatre, and art installations, combining his expertise in music with a keen sensitivity to narrative and visual contexts.

In addition to his work as a composer, Busher Kanj Abu Saleh is the founder, primary composer, and guitarist of the band Hawa Dafi. Since 2011, the band has released two albums, including 'Essetna,' whose title track 'Enta meen' was awarded Best Song of the Year by Beehype in 2015. Busher has also collaborated with notable artists such as Monir Troudi, Sami Ben Said, and Marthe Valle.

In 2010, Busher established ’67 Studio' in the occupied Golan Heights, where he has recorded and produced music for many notable artists, including Haya Zaatry, Terez Sliman, Rasha Nahas, Toot Ard, Faraj Sliman and Hawa Dafi. Busher is also the music director and one of the organizers of the annual Golan Cultural Days Festival, which celebrates art and diversity in the region. Passionate about nurturing the local music and art scene, he is actively involved with emerging artists to help create and refine their work.
